PhD completion in the Solomon lab

Congratulations to Liam Cassidy! Liam's thesis was entitled "Proteomic assessment of sporulation in the wheat pathogen Stagonospora nodorum". This study lead to the identification of several proteins (and encoding genes) that played a role in the ability of the pathogen to asexually reproduce. Interestingly enough, this study seemed to yet again to implicate mannitol metabolism as playing in an important role in sporulation. Mannitol metabolism has been previously implicated in sporulation for this (and other) fungi. Please see "Decoding the mannitol enigma in filamentous fungi" and "Mannitol is required for asexual sporulation in the wheat pathogen Stagonospora nodorum" for further information.
