Draft program now available - scroll below!

Registration for the 10th Stromlo Plant Pathology Conference is now open! The meeting will again be held in the Robertson Lecture Theatre in the Robertson Building at ANU on November 27 and 28. We're excited to announce that we have FOUR excellent plenary speakers for the meeting. Assoc. Prof. Cecile Segonzac (Seoul National University) and Dr. Yasuhiro Kadota (Riken CRS Plant Immunity Research Group, Japan) are world-leading researchers in plant immunity and understanding how pathogens manipulate host defences.

We will also be joined by Professor Wai-Hong Tham (ANU and WEHI, Australia) who is globally renowned for her malaria, and more recently chytrid, research. It is not overstating it to say that Wai-Hong is a force of nature who delivers entertaining presentations on host-microbe interactions - something many of us are interested in!

Lastly but not least, we're excited to announce that Dr. Tek Tay has accepted an invitation to deliver a plenary presentation. Tek is a global leader in applying next generation sequencing techniques to characterise the metagenomics of insect pests, and to provide in-depth understanding of genome diversity in highly invasive insect pests including Fall Army Worm and CRB.

Please forward this invitation on to your lab members or others I have inadvertently missed - this is friendly end-of-year event and the meeting is open to all.

We have made a few changes to year's meeting!

  1. We're introducing a session of 5 min flash talks for students at the early stages of their research career. These are an ideal way to deliver your first conference presentation without the added pressure of questions!

  2. We're keen to include research on pests as well as diseases. There is some excellent research done in Australia and NZ on pest genomics and interaction with plant hosts with considerable crossover with diseases so would be great to include this community.

  3. We're producing an online conference proceedings booklet with abstracts of all talks.

  4. The conference dinner this year will be held at the Duxton Hotel in a very pleasant function area with high-quality finger food served throughout the evening (there will be a cash bar for drinks purchases).

Lastly, we would like to extend a very warm thanks to the British Society of Plant Pathology for their very generous support of the meeting.

Please contact Peter (Peter.solomon@anu.edu.au) or Simon (Simon.williams@anu.edu.au) if you have any questions or feedback.
